If you've been saving up money for a long time and you want to purchase a new or used car, there are a few ways to make sure you have the best buying experience possible and leave the car dealership with the best vehicle for your money. Not every single car is created equal and not every new or used car is all it's cracked up to be. Often what you think may be the best choice for the average consumer, might not be the best choice for you as a buyer. Here are some tips for you to be aware of when you make your automotive decision.
1. Make Sure You Do Your Homework. Now, this doesn't just apply to the car itself. You need to do your homework on the local car dealership as well. Some dealerships are better than others, and some are way better than others. Make sure your dealership offers financing for those with both good or bad credit, allows you to test drive the vehicle you are interested in, and also offers service and parts through its dealership.
2. Check The Mileage. When you search for a used car and you see the mileage on the sticker on the windshield, make sure it matches the actual mileage on the vehicle. Some smaller dealerships, the ones that do not specialize in specific types of cars like Chevrolet, may only list the mileage of the car when they FIRST got it. This means that after multiple test drives, a year or two of sitting in the dealership parking lot or being used a company car, the mileage may be different from what you expect. To be sure, check the dash.
3. Read The Reviews. Every car on the market today has multiple, if not thousands of reviews online. There is no shortage of material on the internet at your fingertips to read and compare. When you go online to search for a great deal on a new or used vehicle, make sure you also check the consumer reports and reviews on that vehicle as well. A car that may look very snazzy and fast may actually be plagued with repair problems and faulty electronics. Make sure you check all resources possible when trying to buy a new or used car.
4. Kick The Tires. Now, this doesn't mean exactly 'kick the tires' but instead refers to making sure you check out the performance of your vehicle. If a local car dealership is reliable and trustworthy, they will allow you to bring your own mechanic in to check out the performance and state of the vehicle you are interested in before you actually sign the dotted line. If the car dealership won't let you use your own mechanic and demands that you use their own 'In House' mechanic, then there is probably something fishy going on. Go with a car dealership that lets you use your own research and intuition to make the best decision possible.
Hopefully this article has sparked some thought in you if you are in the market for a new or used car. Before you spend your hard earned money on a vehicle make sure you know everything about it possible so that you can make the best decision possible for both your wallet and your future driving.
